The TSS is a buffer zone where water with highly contrasting properties originating from the Blackand Mediterranean Seas meet and get partially mixed, then transformedand transported. The roles in transport of materials including oxygen, nutrients, particulates and isotopes by the Bosphorus outflow to modify the Black Sea anoxic layers (Özsoy et al., 2001; Tuğrul et al., 2002; Altıok et al., 2012;
Özsoy et al., 1993; Rank et al., 1999; Özsoy et al., 2002; Delfanti et al., 2014; Falina et al., 2017) as well as by the Dardanelles inflow into the deep basin of the Marmara Sea (Özsoy et al., 1988; Beşiktepe et al., 1993, 1994).Recent reviews establish the overall roles of the TSS fluxes on the Aegean and Mediterranean Sea (Zodiatis, 1994; Zervakis et al., 2000; Kourafalou and Barbopoulos, 2003; Mavropoulou et al., 2016).
